Maffren Confiseur Mini Calissons Holiday Star is made up of candied fruit (mostly melon and orange), crushed almonds, and a thin coating of white icing on top to finish it off. It is a specialty that can be found at many holiday celebrations. A subtle combination of finely crushed almonds and candied fruit, with a touch of honey and orange blossom to give it a distinctive flavor and aroma. The candied fruit is added after the almonds have been finely crushed. It has a flavor that is similar to marzipan, but it also has a fruity undertone to it. This time-honored recipe gets a festive jolt of color and flavor thanks to the red-and-white topping with star shapes; the result is one that's even more irresistible.
Daniel Maffren created Maffren Confiseur in the Provençal town of Le Poët in 1945. Daniel Maffren is a third-generation confectioner. It is well-known for its superb nougats and calissons, among other things.
